Cameron Gainer’s Luna del Mar was shot in a bioluminescent bay off the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico, in collaboration with the Olympic synchronized swimmer Luna del Mar. Gainer also worked with the composer Alex Waterman and a deep space photographer and videographer. This is Luminescent Labs’ first video portrayal of the collision of art and bioluminescence research. Here, Gainer explains how the bioluminescent dinoflagellate Pyrodinium bahamense became the subject of his work.
